The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Distributed Active Archive
Center (DAAC) provides information about the earth's biogeochemical
dynamics to the global change research community, policy makers, educators
and general interested public. This is accomplished through the acquisition,
quality assurance, documentation, archive and distribution of data and by the
creation of value added products that summarize and synthesize
biogeochemical dynamics data from around the globe. This information
includes data from NASA's ground-based research programs and remotely
sensed observations as well as other non-NASA biogeochemical dynamics
data and value-added products relevant to global change research.
Data holdings included land processes and land-surface climatology data from
the FIFE, OTTER and other projects formerly maintained in the Pilot Land
Data System(PLDS) and from the BOREAS project. Availability of the
BOREAS data will be restricted to BOREAS until the data are ready for release
to the general public.

There is currently no charge for data obtained from the ORNL DAAC. Access
to ORNL DAAC data is through the V0 IMS or the local ORNL IMS.
The V0 Information Management System(IMS) allows the user to identify,
browse and order data that is physically distributed among the nine DAACs.

The ORNL DAAC IMS allows the user to search and order only data that is
physically archived at the ORNL DAAC. The local IMS, however, provides a
wider range of search parameters and allows the user to construct more
specific queries allowing more precise information retrieval.
